Cowtown Run

So, every year in Fort Worth, Texas, there is an event called the Cowtown Marathon.  Since there are so many Texans in Camp Phoenix (I suppose), some Americans organized a shadow run (5K) here in camp.  It was held on February 23rd, which turned out to be a pretty nice day.  We are getting spring-like weather here and so lots of rain.  We still did run through the mud but overall was pretty fun and although I didn’t come in first (no chance of that happening LOL), I didn’t come in last either.  For some reason I can’t upload my picture to photobucket, so if you want to see pictures, click the link (HERE) and it will take you to the Op Attention facebook page with the picture(s).

Some pictures that I was able to upload were the ones of my favourite three puppies.  I am hoping to get another dog so I went back to the breeder where we got Gala.  Her dog Dharma, had a litter of 8 puppies about 2 weeks ago.  They are all cute as heck but I do have my favourites.  Of course, it is based purely on looks and so my choices will probably change as they develop personalities.  And then I have to consider Mark and Ryan as well, hoping to find a pup we all can agree on.

The pups in this litter were named after Greek god/goddesses/mythical figures.  These names are just used to identify them, because honestly, who wants to refer to the pups as “blue merle male #1”?  ugh.  So, without further ado, my puppy choices:

Atlas (blue merle male)

Talos (red tri male)

Themis (Black tri male)

Aren’t they adorable??  I am such a sucker for the puppies, if I had the room I would probably want a whole pack of them.

Max Relax

The last few days have been really nice.  No schedule.  Have taken several walks through the countryside, Mark showed me the pastures where they use to keep the cattle.  Downside:  I have been bitten by both mosquitoes and horseflies, and I have a touch of hay-fever.  The land here is beautiful and the pace is much slower than what I am accustomed to.

Here are a couple of  pictures from the walk today.  Have to charge the camera and take some more later.

Playing with rocks by the Grand Codroy River

In the pasture (between front of the house and river)

No plans for the next few days other then heading into Port-aux-Basques to pick up some building supplies and a hitch for our van.  Mark is going to build a new garbage box for the end of the driveway.  I need to look for shoes for Evan, the ones he currently has are getting a bit snug.

May need to find a book store too, stupid me forgot to bring any reading material!!!

Holidays!

I know it’s been *forever* since I posted, life has been keeping me busy!   In May I was preparing for, and then away on, Exercise Spartan Bear II in Meaford, Ontario.  Here is a picture of our group during a water crossing with the Combat Engineers (2 CER).

Once I got back to work I had to get my paperwork started as I will be deploying on the next rotation to Afghanistan and I also had to prepare to attend a 3-week leadership course in St-Jean, Quebec.  The thing is, as part of the pre-deployment training, I have to use all my vacation time,  less 5 days.   I have to be in CFB Valcartier (Quebec) on August 5th, so I will be using all my available vacation time this month.  Mark, the kids and I are currently en route to Newfoundland.  We drove all day and are getting a good night’s rest (I hope!!) at the Best Western in Fredericton. Ryan was pretty excited to be staying in a hotel…

Tomorrow we are heading to North Sydney, NS to catch the Ferry to Newfoundland.  We are looking forward to spending some time with family and RELAXING!  I will be posting pictures throughout, stay tuned 🙂

In other news, Carla has several giveaways on her blog – definitely worth looking into.  I am particularly interested in the Magic Marigold one (HERE)since I am always looking for a better cream.  My hands are always sooooo dry and cracked, hard to find a good product that isn’t greasy.

Anyhow, it’s already 10:30 pm (local) and I should start getting ready for bed.  I will post again soon *promise*

I’ve Been Tagged

Yes, Carla tagged me on her blog and so now I have to return the favour.

Here are the rules:

  1. Post these rules (done!)
  2. Answer the 11 questions from the person who tagged you (coming right up…)
  3. Create 11 new questions for the people you tag. (ummmm)
  4. Tag 11 people and link them to your post (do I even know 11 people with blogs?)
  5. Let them know you tagged them.

I have never been good with chain letters and the like, so I can tell you right away I won’t be following the rules to this either LOL…  I doubt I know 11 people who have blogs and really, it’s a lot of work, especially when all I want to do is sprawl out on the couch and enjoy a semi-vegetative state.  So I will answer the question, be all impressed with myself for posting twice today and then I am shutting off the computer because I have a date… with the couch.

Without further ado, here are Carla’s questions.

1. What is the bravest thing you’ve had to do in your life?

Well, being a member of the military, I have been to a war zone so that could be considered brave.  While living in Borden I often had to drive to Sick Kids with my sons and that meant driving on both Hwy 400 and 401 – that could also be considered brave.  One of my personal favourites is when I stopped taking lorazepam and ativan before (and during) dental appointments.

2. If you had to wear one colour for the rest of your life, which would it be & why?

Oh crap.  I hate these questions.  I am assuming I can wear different shades of the one colour, so taking that into consideration I would have to say Black.  I know, boring.  But realistically, who wants to walk around looking like a big carrot or perpetually celebrating St. Patricks Day?  White would suck.

3. Coffee, tea, or neither? Favourite flavour?

Neither.  I like hot chocolate, milk, water, juice.

4. Do you have any birthmarks?

Bunch of moles, do those count?

5. One thing you regret (if anything) in life?

Seriously Carla?  I have a list.  I regret having children so late in life.  Now I am stuck with them until I am 50.  (just joking….)

6. Do you play any instruments? If not, do you regret not learning?

I learned to play the flute in high school.  I always wanted to play guitar.  Now, I don’t play anything but I am okay with that.

7. How many REALLY good friends do you have?

Not many.

8. Have you ever “dropped out” of anything? Lessons, school, etc…

Dropped out of high school once but it didn’t last.

9. Smartphone or “old school” phone?

Yep, I have my crackphone…..

10. How long have you been blogging for?

On and off for years.

11. Do you *LOVE* your job? I mean really love your job? Or is it “just a paycheck”?

I love my job.  At times I get really tired but I still am happy to go to work in the morning.

And now I am done!

Well, here I am….

A new blog. What was I thinking?  Well, I am slowly starting to make changes in my life that I hope are a step in a better direction.  I figured that blogging, whether it be regularly or haphazardly, might be something that I can do to share the daily grind with family and friends but also as a way of keeping on track (maybe) and sharing some common goals with others.  I am going to try and start budgeting which will be a feat in itself but I am also going to try and get our family on track with healthier eating which includes making better choices when it comes to the kinds of foods we buy.  I am no saint, this will definitely be a work in progress 😉  I like crafts like scrapbooking and card-making so I’ll be sharing some of that as well, and I will be taking a sewing class so we’ll see where that leads.

So here’s the first picture to be posted. These are the first herbs in my new indoor “herb garden”.  There is some Thyme, Rosemary and Basil.  Wonder how long before I kill them…… seriously, I have had no luck with herbs.  Sorry about the fuzzy picture, taking a top-notch photo was low in my priority list today.
